Lecture-Performance: “Memory, Enactment and Truth: Performative Act as Rematerialization of Art”
18/10/2024

Şafak Çatalbaş presented a three-part lecture-performance as part of Performistanbul Academic Studies series, grounded in her PhD thesis in Art, “Memory, Enactment and Truth: Performative Act as Rematerialization of Art” (2023), which investigates the relationship between “re-make” practices and artistic processes. Drawing on performative action as a mode of re-materialization, the presentation examined performance and documentation through dynamic frameworks that traverse life and death, the natural and the social, mind and body, and spirituality and media, while embodying the discourse itself—thereby opening up the experience.

The “Academic Studies” series at Performistanbul Live Art Research Space (PCSAA) brings together artists, academics, and researchers who engage with concepts such as performance art, performativity, and live art from diverse disciplinary and practice-based perspectives. Its aim is to develop contributions collaboratively with participants and to foster a meaningful dialogue between academic research and artistic production.
